I bought a car the and the seller told me the AC was working ,but it wasn't (i believe on his word because is a friend of the family...bad mistake) we agree to go to the mechanic and that he will pay the cost to fix it, but as soon as he knew that it will cost $600 he refuses to give me any money, i still own him $750 and i gave him 4 post dated personal checks of $187 each WHAT CAN I DO? can i go to the bank and tell them no to pay the checks ,and on the CANADIAN laws what could happen
(what really upset me is that i call and told him the AC wasn't
working one hour after he gave me the car and he said "do not worry i gave you my word the AC was working and i am a honest person ,i will fix it)
I live in Canada

Yes, go to your bank and ask for a stop payment on the check numbers. They will probably have you fill out a form and charge you.
Unfortunately you probably did not get him to write down that he would fix the ac so if he takes you to small claims court, you might not have much of a case as the burden of proof would be upon you.
btw - business is business, friends are friends > don't mix the 2. & always get it in writing.

You can do what is called a stop payment on all of the checks. It will cost you about $25 per check. Also, they are only good for 6 months, so you will have to do it again or get a new bank account number (easy).
Check with your bank for exact details.
Nothing will happen to you. You had a verbal agreement with him and he went back on it.

You can give the bank a Stop Payment Order. This may not be a legal means to recover your money. If you wrote the checks, even it you were lied to, a Stop Payment Order is a breach of contract on your part.

Go to your bank and put a stop payment order on these checks. There will be a fee the bank will charge. Then take the car back to him,and give him the car and keys.
After all that go to BBB and report them on there deceptive ways, and lies.

instead of paying all the fees( $25.00 each check) close the account and open a new one. u dont incur any fees for checks presented on closed account. account can be closed and a new one opened the same day. if u are expecting wires or direct deposit u can BLOCK the account. what this means is that any debits (withdrawals, checks, ach, purchase ,,,,,,) presented are return but credits can still post. and once u get these credits transfer them to your new account and close this one completely

You can issue a stop payment on the checks through your bank, but I believe they charge for each one.

YES, YOU CAN PUT A STOP-PAYMENT AT YOUR BANK. THEY WILL HAVE YOU FILL OUT A FORM WITH YOUR REASON AND THOSE CHECK NUMBERS WILL BE STOPPED. BAD NEWS IS THAT THE BANK USUALLY CHARGES 25-50 DOLLARS FOR EACH STOPPED CHECK
