Culture is a Fusion....like for example: The Germans with the Mexicans in Texas... they share many cultural aspects... both could be white, or both could be brown... both like beers, Polka and Corridos.

Among any Culture in the USA, stands out: The Mexican Culture.
Why? Because many states belonged to Mexico... that's it.

This wbsite.. ' Yahoo Answers" have a section for U.S Spanish... that's a good example to show you Spanish is an American language, and it is also the second most spoken in the world.. the first spoken in Continental America... and the second most spoken in the USA.

Okay, so I'm not white German or plaid...but I will chime in on this one!!! Mexican Culture...Mexicans used to have a bigger stake in this country...until well-you know. Now modern day Mexican culture is all about fence hoping, border rushing, cheap labor and tequila (and maybe the occasional Donkey show). Mexican history is great vast and deserves respect-way more than what it has been given. Art, history and someone to bust your tables, are what I love about our friends south of the border. Mexico is great, and screw all of you who think otherwise! But culture is the question and on the real-history doesn't come into play. The only culture is what we see on the news-or in resteraunts, or at night when office buildings close. A country with sub par leadership that while it has contributed very little besides a very standard stereo type, it has contributed some of our best (and more honorable) politicians, comedians, actors etc.

And let's be even more real-even if you are white (german) or "black like me", everyone is very familiar with the though that Latinos are friggin hot/sexy you name it. Everything exotic has a Latin base to it, from "Dirty Dancing" to Ricky Martin (yeah I went there)-the world has embraced the life of Latino like it was there own. I mean how many of us like Tacos, Salsa, Tequila, and Salsa Dancing? How many of us love Chakira, Salma Hayek, and Jennifer Lopez (before and after puffy)? All the hot Latino men on TV beat the crap out everyone else-unless they play basketball.

All I can say is that no, we aren't trying to assimilate into Latino or Mexican Culture-we don't have to. We've already taken it and claimed it for our own. Or didn't you get that on the news?

Nothing,I am an American of German ancestry. Why would I want to assimilate into your culture? I don't see you trying to assimilate into the American culture.I speak English,Spanish,Cajun French and I am learning Japanese for an up coming business trip there early next year. What are you doing?
There's more to the world than Mexican culture, there's a great big world out there full of things that have nothing to do with ,you or your culture.I have never in all my travels ever heard any one say",Oh I want to immigrate to Mexico, what a great country, its so free, the people are so happy, the economy is booming"No never have I ever heard that. But I always hear people that say they would like my help in getting into the USA.
Maybe you need to fix your own countries before your planned take over of the US.Which ,by the way will never happen....not in this lifetime any way.

I think the cultures all blend in, look how we had a great Italian influence and Irish in the 1902's and 1930's. The Irish were not that welcome either, now we parade in NY on St Patricks'day. The blending of latinos is already quite prominent in Florida and California it will all become a melting pot. Meanwhile I am eating a lot of Mexican food which I did not even know about 10 years ago. I speak some Spanish and raised an ESL teacher daughter.

you have it wrong

We're the Host nation
they are the ones coming here they are the ones who are expected to assilimilate
learn english
get a job
get an education
get a visa
get in line
become productive
put their money in American Banking institutions
respect and learn our history and appreciate that they live in a home rather then a hut
appreciate that they have come to a land where laws are to be obeyed not disregarded like in their homeland

America is made of many cultures no one culture - latino or any other
is more significant then any other

this is America e Pluribus Unum = One country

Many in One

so your friends that are coming here illegally think their gonna change the face or texture or complexion of this country but they wont

it will allways be America

I know how to do latin ballroom dancing...and I can translate Spanish from my knowledge of Italian. Well, at least as long as the Spanish is as close to Castillian as possible....dialetical slang gets me lost.

My woman is also Mexican in blood, Californian and American by birth.

That's as far into Latino assimilation as I'll ever go. They come here, they assimilate....if I ever go there, I'll gladly learn the cultures at hand.

It's simply just the way it works.

A better question would be: what are the latinos doing to assimilate into the American culture???? If I decided to live in Mexico I would at least make an effort to learn the language and understand the culture.

You tell me...

Do you lay in a hammock on a hot, breezy day? Do you like your corn chips with spicy salsa? Do you enjoy your tacos with fresh guacamole sauce? How many Mexican restaurants can you spot in a drive down your town's main street? Noticed those short sleeved, elastic around the neck, dresses with layers of fabric and lace exposing the shoulders? Ever thought a woman with a flower on her hair looked beautiful? Have you noticed how popular it is to grow cacti in clay pots? Does a vacation in Acapulco sound like a dream?
And so much more...

It is too late to "take" the Mexican culture out.

I go to taco bell.

Mexican Culture is a foreign culture. If it was American culture there would be no distinction between American Cluture and Mexican Culture. Mexicans should be assimilating into American Culture.

Any culture not of the first nations is a foreigner culture. You guys south of the border should look at a mosaic style of nationality.
