It's called life experience.

Researching subjects that interest you is good.

Being open to new ideas is a must. That used to be called liberalism but politicians have stolen that term away.

You need information and the wisdom to select which information you choose to have faith in.

I would recommend unplugging the TV.

Live more is the fastest way to be knowledgable. You have to live with your eyes and ears open and aware seeing things from all perspectives. Read some books on philosophy, watch some varying types of movies, and listen to several types of music no matter how bad it sounds. Take the time to see why people produce it and who their target audience is. Figure out why there are so many minorities in jail, women that can't keep their legs closed, and men that are fat and lazy. Figure out the pros and cons to being democrat or republican, own a few pets, be both social and anti-social, etc. If you don't drink start, if you've never tried weed, try it, own a house, live with no cable for a while, become a vegetarian for a while, etc. Get as many life experiences as possible.

Read...read...read. Read EVERYTHING. Read books, magazines, surf the Internet and read stuff online.

Watch educational TV like the Discovery Channel and the History Channel.

Try and remember what you see and hear. The powers of observation are a big factor in learning.

I don't think anything beats reading, even though I hate it, I must credit books with most of my knowledge. TV NEVER gives you enough detail, online surfing isn't organized enough, and people give you incorrect and incomplete information.
