A competitive boxer's training is REALLY HARD, so you need to eat like a horse to keep up with the calories you're using up. If you stop training so hard, either 'cos you're injured or you retire or whatever, the eating pattern is a hard habit to break.

So it's very easy to end up looking like the man who ate a horse...

Hamed and Hatton cannot be compared in the same breath !!!.
Hamed is a washed up, overweight ex boxer with a chip on his shoulder, whereas Hatton is a world champion at two weights, has never lost a fight and is still active professionally.
Some boxers do have a habit of ballooning in weight between fights and putting on too much timber, but their conditioning training is designed to get them to the correct weight before a fight. I know Ricky likes his curries, fry-ups and Guiness when he's not training for a fight, but as soon as the serious business starts, all of that stops. I personally wouldn't begrudge the man a pint and a plate of his favourite food after the performances he turns in in the squared circle, he's a great fighter, and he's writing his name in the history books as far as I'm concerned.

well with naz he blew up like a blimp because he was retired and enjoying his money.

hatton has little discipline between fights and the way he blows up and slims down will be nothing but detrimental to his long term career. he has a style that will be hard to sustain to far into his 30's and putting his body through extra punishment due to slimming down to light welter when he walks aroung looking as if he weights as much as a middle/supermiddle weight is just stupid.

there arent to many other fighters who do this, i guess james toney would be a giant hamster but he cant have many more fights left in him.

When a person has worked out hours a day to keep their body pumped and in the condition of a "muscleman" the instant they stop it all starts to turn to fat and flab. Once your built like that you have to work to maintain it. Its much worse if the used steroids to help get the "cut" look.

Muscle turns into connective tissue as people age.
Have you seen the paparazzi pic of California's governor in a bathing suit?
I used to wish I could look like him. Now I look better, and I am a lot older than he is.

This does not seem to be a problem with Joe Calzaghe. It has a lot to do with mental strength. Some have focus, others are distracted and take their eyes off the prize.

Protein does not develop into fat. the way your physique places on fat is that it takes in extra energy than it burns. All energy are equivalent on your physique. it quite is not important if those energy come from protein, fat, or carbohydrates. If there are too many energy then your physique will shop them as fat.
