It's not the act of using Limewire that is illegal. It's sharing and downloading copyrighted music that's illegal.

Why? Well, suppose you were a music band, trying to make money. How would you feel if everyone was getting your music for free, instead of buying it from you?

Technically Limewire is not illegal. When you first use the program they have 2 boxes that says do you plan to use this software to dowload illegal stuff or not. It says soemthing like that. They know what people do. If you say yes you cannot proceed if you say no you can proceed. In their head everyone who is downloading has told and agreed to them that they are not using the software limewire for illegal puposes.

On the other hand 90% of the people on there share copyrighted files of music, books, software, and much more. Of course it is illegal to use your friend's copy of software for as your own without buying a copy. most have keygens that come with them to help you unlock the programs. legally that art of that is called piracy in legal terms. Or as some people like to illegally say )modifying software to better fit their needs.lol:)

Music is supposed to be paid for also. Me personally I got tired of buying whole albums for 1 favorite song. So limewire is a good place to go for anything just about. It is up to you whether you want to take advantage of the resources people allow to be available to you or not.

If you don't feel comfortable with doing anything illegal, I would say the best thing to do is to stay off of limewire. You also take chances with getting viruses and things. I never run into that problem because I am a computer expert. Ethically and legally no! But if you don't mind, go for it.

Limewire is legal for sharing files as long as the files are not copyrighted. Songs, software, movies are not allowed to be shared as they want the procedes for sales. There are a lot of viruses associated with limewire so what you can legally do with it really isnt worth the hassle. Stick to buying music and you will be happier.

I think you want to ask someone from the FCC about that. Police officers have nothing to do with the legality of places like Limewire. Good Luck ! :)
