DNA is made up of four building blocks, called nucleotides. The molecular weights of
these four nucleotides (A,C,G,T) are not identical, so in routine work we usually
average the molecular weights of all four and go with 330 daltons per nucleotide in
DNA (=330 grams/mole of individual nucleotides). Since DNA is double stranded, i.e.,
one nucleotide pairs with a nucleotide on the
opposing strand, then we can say the average molecular weight of a nucleotide PAIR in
DNA is 660 daltons. Now you just have to multiply 660 daltons by the length of DNA you
are working with. For example, let us say a bacterial cell has a million (10E6)
nucleotide pairs per cell. So, 660 daltons/nucleotide pair times 1,000,000 nucleotide
pairs equals the DNA's molecular weight: 660 million daltons, or 6.6 x 10E8 daltons).
Mammals have about 1000 times more than this per cell.

A typical cell, not a sex cell egg/sperm, contains 23 pair of chromosomes. But the cell will also contain some additional DNA found in the mitochondria. Mitochondrial DNA is only passed on from the mother. A red blood cell does not contain any DNA or other cellular organells. A typical cell that contains the 23 pair of chromosomes is called a Diploid cell, a sex cell that contains only 23 is called a Haploid cell.

Just like any other cell: Exactly one set of DNA. In a human, that means 23 chromosome pairs. The DNA copies itself whenever a cell divides into two.

The exception would be sex cells: Sperm cells and eggs, each of which contain only half of the DNA structure, and become complete when a sperm cell enters an egg.

I'm looking for the answer to this question, There's a lecture where the speaker said there is ~6 feet end to end of DNA in 1 cell, and if you added all the 6 feet of every cell it would go around the world 5 million times... Confirm?

There are approximately 20,000-25,000 genes in human DNA,
comprised of of the 3 billion chemical base pairs that make up human DNA, arranged in twenty three pairs (total 46) chromosomes.
