I am purchasing a shih tzu, he is 6 mnths old, and a little shy.
Will this be a problem? Also, what about potty training at this
age?

I have 3 Shih Tzu's. 2 are grown and 1 is a puppy. They are not hard to potty train, you just really need to pay attention. Get excited when you take them outside and make it a point to tell them that you are going outside. Thankfully when they do have accidents it is small and easy to clean up. All three of my dogs are crate trained. What I mean by this is that they sleep in the dog house/crate at night and when we leave the house. They do not go to the bathroom in the crate unless we are bad and leave them in there too long.

Don't worry about him being shy, he will come out of it as you show him more love and attention. They love toys, play with him.

You want to train the mutt do use the toilet??? Can it reach? That sounds dumb.

If you mean house train, then 6 months is really old enough to be compleetly house trained. Either the dog is rock stupid (easy with that breed) or it has medical problems, bladder infection, urinary tract infection.

Stay away from any dog that is shy, they will bite out of fear (look up "fear biting" or "fear biter" on the internet. Yeah that small of a rodent can't bite too hard, but it could still cost you one hell of a lawsuit, maybe lose your house insurance etc.

I have a shih-tzu too, but i got her when she was a yr old and she was shy at first too but after a while he'll lossen up once he gets to now you.

I also bought another puppy about the same age as yours but a different breed but to train it I had puppy pads everywhere and eventually placed some outside b/c they learn to go on the pads in the house so it works outside too and then I took the pads away outside and just praised him when he went where he's suppose to go :) praise works much better than yelling when they're wrong but expect mistakes since he is a puppy and is just learning :)

good luck

Is she having her first heat? Are you buying a dog with medical problems? Why isn't a 6 month old dog house trainded? You do mean house training right???
