I am the sensitive type as well. I used to get very depressed about things that are said or done to me. I have learned to not let it fester. Go to the sorce and set down with them one on one. Man kids today and adults say and do things when they are around thier friends or colgues that they really don't mean to do. Peer presure is not a good thing most of the time. A second party who is totally basis is also a good idea. In business it really doesn't pay to be to sensitive. People will take advatange of that senitivity and that is not what you want to portray. I am not sure how old you are but life will also help you get a little less sensitive as you grow into yourself. The last thing is to keep a journal everyday of your life. I am 51 now and I wished now that i did that so I could go back and appologize to some folks. It is nice when you get to old to remember to have books to go back to. You will thank me many years down the road if you do this. Put the things that you are so sensitive about in there and what you did to aliveate the pain. It works. I am an LVN, have been a Nurse Aide Trainer for over 20 years and an Assistant Director of Nurses and you talk about back stabbing and sensitive conversations. But with God's help I am still here. G-d Bless you with the strength to look at these incidents and consider the source. "Are they worth your worry and time?" If not move on and drop them in the dust.

I think that it is helpful to remember that the person saying the things (whatever they are that is hurtful to you) is just a person. All of us are just trying to get through this life. Most people who say hurtful things to others are either very self absorbed, insensitive or clueless to how there behavior is affecting other people. Or - just plain mean. ! Anyone with any of the above listed characteristics are to be pitied. When you find yourself hurt - taking things personally..........you could also remember this, most people don't even remember very long after what they said, they have moved on. Remember you have value and worth....don't let someone with a character flaw (which we all have in some form) ruin or day...or "hurt" you.
With all that said, it is difficult.........not knowing the specifics of what brought about this question makes it difficult to answer.
Also.......there are emotionally retarded people, just as there are mentally retarded people. Some folks just don't know better!

I was extremely sensitive as a teenager, and am still a little sensitive. Aging and just learning to deal with difficult people will help you overcome this.
In the meantime, reaffirm what you are good at and realize that you are a unique individual. Many time we are harder on ourselves and just use other people's comments or our mishaps to fuel our self-loathing. The truth is that when we screw up, most people won't even remember in a day or two, while we may still be beating ourselves up over it.

I used to ask the same question.

Part of it is becoming more comfortable with who you are. And that comes with experience, finding your likes and dislikes and being OK with the fact that your choices may not be popular. I also became more spiritual and it has helped center me(for me it's Christianity for you it might be Buddhism, Wicca, or even Atheism).

I still sometimes take things to personally, but I remind myself that it's not all about me. Sometimes a comment is just a comment(no hidden meanings).

Best of luck and God Bless

i know i am the same way...but we should not what others say and do hurt us...we are just as good as they are...and in some ways i believe we are better because we least have feelings..i do not like to hurt anyone and help all i can....but i am learning there is so many rude and nasty people in this world....remember the phrase sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me...try to make that real ....and when it comes to us worrying remember to wait to worry......because one half never happens and the other half we can not change anyway...thoughts to ponder on anyway...

don't worry about what other people think. if you are content with yourself it shouldn't matter what other people say.
