Sin is a deliberate thought, word, deed, or omission contrary to the eternal law of God.

Or sin is anything that hurts your relationship with God.

With love in Christ.

Sin means to "miss the mark" like when someone shoots an arrow at a target and fails to hit the bull's eye. The Bible teaches that there are various ways that a person can miss the mark of God's perfect will for their lives. The most serious is for a person to know what God's will is in a particular situation and to choose not to obey. Then there is accidental sin where a person is either ignorant or acts hastily without considering what they are doing or saying and they end up committing a sin. Then there is the sin of omission. That's where a person knew that they should do something but they failed to do it. Then there are the sins of the heart where a person entertains evil thoughts that they know are sinful instead of recognizing that they are sinful and moving on to think of something else. There is also a sinful attitude where someone fails to forgive another person or is proud and looks down on others and things like that.

That's why I'm so glad that Jesus came down to earth to pay my sin debt for me. I could never hope to stand before the Holy God of Heaven without the righteousness of Jesus accredited to my account.

Literally, a missing of the mark, according to the Hebrew and Greek Bible texts. God himself sets the “mark” that his intelligent creatures are to reach. Missing that mark is sin, which is also unrighteousness, or lawlessness. (Rom. 3:23; 1 John 5:17; 3:4) Sin is anything not in harmony with God’s personality, standards, ways, and will, all of which are holy. It may involve wrong conduct, failure to do what should be done, ungodly speech, unclean thoughts, or desires or motives that are selfish. The Bible differentiates between inherited sin and willful sin, between an act of sin over which a person is repentant and the practice of sin.

Sin is a superstitious way of describing inappropriate or wrong behavior, however that is judged. Some forms of Christianity also describe it as being an innate attribute of all humans regardless of age.
