A man walked into a bar and asked the barman for a glass for water. They had never met before. The barman pulled a gun from under the counter and pointed it at the man. The man said 'Thank you' and walked out. Why should that be so?

He wanted a glass of water to cure his hiccups, but the bartender knew a better way - to scare him, that's why he pulled a gun. The guy got cured so he didn't need his water anymore, he thanked and left.

the man who asked for the water had the hiccups. when he saw the gun he got a fright, which cured his hiccups. he was very polite, so he said thankyou, and, not being an alcoholic, he walked out without buying a pint of beer etc...
