You can buy a box to receive HDTV and plug it into your regular TV, it will work, but you won't be seeing HDTV. The picture will look somewhat better than what you have been getting, but still not as good as real HDTV. Prices are coming down. Get a real HDTV (most all now come with built-in tuners, so that's all you need. No box.)

Yes, you must have an HDTV set to view a High Definition signal. You can only buy a box to down-convert an HD signal for viewing on a standard TV, but you can't can't covert a standard signal to HD.
