For adultery - divorce
For stealing - jail or even prison...
For lying - mistrust (from everyone you lie too)
Is that what you meant?
When you sin daily...it will divide you from God; which is exactly what the enemy wants. You sometimes will feel guilt and shame, therefore doing just the opposite of what you need to do. You end up running away from God instead of running to Him and asking for forgiveness so you can repair your relationship.
It's like when Jesus was on the cross and He's talking w/the Father. "Why have you forsaken me?" At that very moment, Jesus could feel God turning away from Him. Jesus had taken on the sins of the world...mine and yours. God hates sins, therefore He will turn away.
God won't move away but He will turn away.
If there are 100 steps between you and God; He will take 99 of them. You must take the last one.

In simple terms it depends on your personal convictions. If someone looks at an apple and is convinced that it is a banana, it will be a banana as long as they are willing to accept it. If you want an ultimate truth I don't think you will ever be able to find one.
Penalties for sin? Sin can be ambiguous ... in its definition. You should also try to be more specific on what these sins are and who you are expecting penalties from. This will beget you a better answer. If you would like me actually give you a useful answer you should send me an email with more information concerning these types of sins.
Sincerely,
Numa

i don't understand your question... there are penalties for murdering! that's a sin. but if you're talking about lying and stuff like that... the penalties are only what happens as a result of them. your punishment will be served to you on earth... not in the afterlife... but the same goes for murder

Sure, most stuff has consequences, but even if there doesn't seem to be earthly consequences, there WILL be penalties after one dies.

...I know of nothing specific, although sin quite often comes with at the least unpleasant and/or unwanted consequences, guilt, i.e.
Fornication can result in guilt, unwanted and unplanned pregnancies, and social diseases (STDs like gonorrea, syphillis, etc)

Yes, if god finds that you are gullible, naive and refuse to think for yourself, he will make you join a religion.

If God gave you "Free Will", then he can't blame you for using it. So, sin cannot exist. Therefore, he can't punish you.
