The recipe is referring to candy wafers that are made for melting and molding. You can usually find them at any arts & crafts store, usually in the cake decorating/baking section of the store. I've even seen them in some larger Wal*Mart stores. You can also look at a Michael's or Hobby Lobby -- or another larger craft chain near you. They come in a variety of colors, and are usually sold in 1/2-1 pound bags.

Here is a link to show you what they look like:

I hope this helps!

I believe they are the candy circles about as big as a wafer, that you melt to coat other items such as apples, cookies, stick pretzels, etc.. They can be found at any Wilton bakery supply store or ordered on line through the Wilton company. I hope that I was some help to you.

*Melting wafers are chocolate that’s formulated for making candy. They are inexpensive and easy to use. Melt ‘n Mold is one brand (www.guittard.com), available at grocery stores, cake and candy supply stores, and craft stores. Chocolate bars and bakers chocolate melt well. Chocolate chips, however, are formulated to resist melting. If chips are your only option, you can melt them but it’s tricky. Stir in 1 teaspoon solid vegetable shortening (not oil, margarine or butter) for each ounce of chips. Microwave on medium power at 30-second intervals.

They are a colored chocolate type or sugar type for coating.
I would get white chocolate and melt it and then add red and blue food coloring to make purple and red and yellow for orange.
