He's cross eyed so can't judge distance and just jumped. He landed on the lawn (short grass). I took him straight to the vet - he's there now. How long will it be before I wiull know if he's going to be OK? (The vet said all the right things, but wouldn't tell me what his chances were). Please don't answer unless you have had similar happen.

You did the right thing by taking the poor little thing to the Vets, at least he can have pain releief for any injuries and be looked after properly. If he's with the vet he's got the best chance of survival.

Cats can handle falling large distances, their bodies are built for it, but a little kitten may have more delicate bones and muscles than an adult cat.

I wouldn't worry too much. Just rest assured hes' in the right place and he has a very good chance of being OK.

once you're something like me, being "mentally arranged" is understanding the worst a threat eventualities. Be arranged that the vet might prefer to take him decrease back to the place of work for x-rays, so get the provider waiting. You did not point out how your kitten landed? Did he l and on his feet? The fluid and the wheezing may be a threat if he cracked a rib. you does not experience a cracked rib except you have been knowledgeable, in spite of the fact that it could influence lung function and respiration. There must be some harm around the nasal section that could influence his respiration. Co-by the style, he would have a kitty chilly, which affected his stability/equilibrium, that's why he fell in the 1st place. you're doing the appropriate element by making use of protecting the kitten calm -- he little question had the wind knocked out of him huge time. Now, you ought to shop calm. Make a advantageous cup of tea, the vet must be becoming the force in a jiffy. stable success and stay calm. further: thank you for the replace....spleens would be bumped off and livers can heal. i will deliver stable recommendations on your cat's finished restoration. as properly on your prayers, create a halo of sparkling white mild of secure practices around your cat. stable success, and that i desire all is definitely.

40 feet is a long drop, the usual injury from that height is a broken jaw. They seem to land ok but cant help their chin hitting the ground. Shock may be another problem, it depends what your kitten did after it landed. Was it winded, how long did it take to get up and walk, did it vomit?
Your kitten was lucky it landed on grass, fingers crossed it should be ok. Good luck.

I suggest you ring the vet in the morning and hope for the best. Our kitten fell off a tree when she was young, but appeared to be only dazed for a few minutes and then perfectly ok. Don't worry too much, they do seem to have 7 lives after all. Good Luck.

A few years ago i went to my friends flat on the 7th floor with my Doberman. He chased the Siamese right off the balcony the cat landed the hood on the MG below with no harm done whatsoever. I don't take the dog round anymore the cat may have been OK but I don't think my heart is up to anymore trips out the window.

Hope your cats OK

How did the cat seem when you brought him to the vet? He may have just been shook up since he is still so young.
My parent's cat fell off the railing of a deck and fell approx. 35/45 feet down a rocky cliff. -He got up, shook it off and climbed back up the cliff.
Good luck. Try not to worry too much. Hope for the best and try and keep yourself busy until you hear back from the vet.

By the way...
Duh people. Cat's don't always land on their feet. I know that's what everyone always says...
My cat is a dork and rolls off the back of the couch and falls on her head, back, whatever...all the time. (She's always fine. She's just clumsy, she's always been. lol)

I've seen a video clip of a cat jump from a tree and fly 60 feet before hitting the grass and taking off. I don't know his situation but i bet he'll be ok :)

My kitten fell 40 ft from my balcony and landed also on short grass. I ran down to get her expecting her to be badly injured, she was still sat there when i got out there, she kept shaking as she was in shock but within half hour she was fine and back to her normal self.

Your cat more than likely will be alright. Cats can jump long distances up or down and they always land on their feet. Plus the fact that it is a kitten is even better. More agile, etc.
