363 days without a reentry permit

International Travel
A Permanent Resident of the United States can travel freely outside of the US. A passport from the country of citizenship is normally all that is needed. To reenter the US a Permanent Resident normally needs to present the green card (Permanent Resident Card, Form I-551) for readmission. A reentry permit is needed for reentry for trips greater than one year but less than two years in duration.

"26. How Long Can I Remain Outside the U.S. without Losing My Immigrant Status?

If you are a lawful permanent resident (or conditional permanent resident) and will be outside of the U.S. for more than a year, you will need to make special preparations for your re-entry, before you leave the U.S. See Returning Resident Aliens. If you have applied to adjust to permanent resident status, you should be careful of any trip outside the U.S. - see Have a Pending Immigration Application? Beware of Foreign Travel."

"Don’t leave the United States for an extended period of time or move to another country to live there permanently.

Permanent residents who leave the United States for extended periods, or who cannot show their intent to live permanently in the U.S., may lose their permanent resident status. If you think you will be out of the U.S. for more than 12 months, you should apply for a re-entry permit before leaving the country. You should file Form I-131, Application for a Travel Document. A re-entry permit is valid for up to 2 years and shows that you are returning from a temporary visit abroad. You may show the re-entry permit at a port of entry."

On a personal note... my mom is a permanent resident of the US and has travelled to Spain for 2 or 3 months and it's not a problem. Just make sure her green card is up to date... as long as it's just vacation and won't last longer than a year, it's fine.

I believe that the States are the same as here in Canada. You can leave your place of permenant residency for up to six months a year without it affecting your residency. Here in Canada we have many Snowbirds who travel to your country for the colder months and they can stay for six months.

Three months, but it depends on the country, maybe she just has to pay like 50 bucks or maybe she can just leave the country for a day and return and can stay for 3 more months.

I think that it depends on the length of time stated on the Visa. I think that you should call the INS and ask if she could get the Visa extended without coming home.
