I've had some big losses in my life in the past week (my boyfriend broke up with me and my cat died...all in the same week!). So, I've been pretty depressed. I've noticed that I've fallen into letting myself eat whatever I wanted to kind of help fill the void in my soul. I've gained 3 pounds in a week. I've got a weight problem as it is, and the last thing I need to do is put on more weight. What are some ways I can comfort myself without reaching for the cookie jar?

It's usually really difficult for people to not find comfort in food. I am sorry for the recent losses in your life, I know what it's like to lose both a boyfriend and a cat, it's very difficult. Both in the same week is equally as difficult. Some tips that might help you would be:

1. Don't keep any junk food around you. If you choose to snack, snack on fruits or veggies.
2. Drink plenty of water, get in at least 8 glasses a day. Make it a mini-goal for yourself. Maybe you can even have a dry erase board on your fridge so you can tally up all the water you drank.
3. Get out of the house, go for a walk, or ride a bike somewhere. Expend your energy, burn some calories!
4. Look up a great new recipe for a food you have never tried before. Try new and healthy foods such as quinoa, couscous, or use brown rice. Cook this new recipe and enjoy your new creation.
5. Read a book, or write something as a form of catharsis.
6. Write a list of your most amazing qualities, and post it somewhere that you can read it everyday. Remind yourself just how wonderful you really are.

Good luck with this, you will be just fine! Believe in yourself!

First of all, I am very sorry for your losses. My suggestion is to get out of the house if possible. Go for a brisk walk or a bike ride. Sometimes even moderate exercise like that can help. After that, try reading an interesting book to take your mind off things or do crossword or word find puzzles. If you still feel the need to reach for the cookie jar, try buying a bag of baby carrots or grapes. Both have fewer calories than the cookies plus the carrots have a satisfying crunch.

My Dad my Aunt and I all have the same problem. We're stress eaters. Something i find to do is try to eat things like apples and grapes. Things that are good for you. Also try letting off some of the stress by just going out and running or exercising. This was you loose wait and your blowing off steam. Also one thing that always works for me is chewing gum. When you have gum in your mouth you can't eat and it still gives you that chewing feeling to get rid of the craving. Hope it helps and sorry about your cat and Boyfriend.

Exercise releases the equal endorphins as chocolate offers you. Tomorrow morning, rise up early and pass to the health club or the swimming pool, or pass out for a longer term till you think like you're approximately to die! Then, after the sensation of exhaustion has handed, you'll think plenty higher. Part of what's making you think so depressed now's the worry of having fats, when you begin doing some thing approximately it then it's going to be like a weight off your shoulders.

if you are going to snack try eating hard candy. Jolly ranchers, Tootsie Pops, whatever you like. they only have a few calories and last a long time. Sugar free fudgecicles are super yummy too. and only like 45 calories. try going out for walks, or go out dancing. Remember how fun it was to be single!!! Look at it as emancipation, not a break-up! Good luck and sorry about the cat.

Have you ever tried keeping a journal? It is therapeutic but a word of advice....NEVER go back and read it because you will probably read things that will be bad. Write all of your feeling in your journal because it is a way of getting the emotions out. And sleep is another thing because you don't think so much when you are asleep. If all else fails, you might want to seek counseling.

WATER WATER WATER...it fills you up. Or you can drink those protein shakes that way you get full and are still getting the proper vitamins without over eating. Also get rid of all the freaking junk food in your house. Eat veggies, yogurt whatever. You can't eat too many veggies or fruits just don't drown them in dressing.

I'm just the opposite. When I'm depressed, I don't eat at all.

Stop buying junk food. Instead buy fruits and vegetables. Munch on those instead.

I'm very sorry about your cat. Mine died in January. That hurts.
