I'm not sure there is a best brand of cycling short. there are a number of good ones out there, the main thing you want to look at is the number of panles on the shorts. The more panels you have the better they will contour to your legs. Shorts come in a 6,8, and 10 panel versions. The Chamios in the shorts will also affect the overall comfort as some just have a chamois pad in them and others have ergonomic designs to promote better comfort.

Your typical 6 panel basic chamois shorts are going to run $35-50. Getting into your better 8 panel shorts with a nice chamois your looking around $65-85. Your top of the line 10 panel shorts with the companies best chamois will get you in around $95-120. You will also find bibs available which a lot of people like because the waist is not a concern. With bibs add $25 -30 to the price of shorts that you were considing.

go to your local bike shop and they should have a good selection. depends what kind of shorts your looking for too. Lycra shorts will cost from $40-$70 usually. mountain (freeride) shorts will cost anywere from $45 to over $100. i personally have Specialized lycra shorts that were $60. very comfortable, wicks sweat away, and padded in all the right areas!

I prefer bib shorts... my favorites are Descente and Pearl Izumi. they are worth the extra money (80 to 120 bucks).
