The HCV and HBV positives are done differently. It's kind of an apples and oranges thing - the tests are pretty specific for the antibodies. My advice is to do the test again. I have hep c and you need to know if you have it. And those folks who advocate Milk Thistle (for hep C) are right on the mark. If you have hep C, take it. The Rebetrol (riboviren) and PEG interferon treatment can be useful, too, althought I went through 2 years of it (one pre PEG and one with PEG) and still have a viral load. However, my liver doc says there is a reduction in the possibilty of liver cancer, the big worry for us with hep C. So, get rechecked, and if you drink, stop. Best of luck - we can lick this thing.

Hep C and B are two different types of Hepatitus. You wouldn't test positive for Hep C if you had Hep B.

it could very well be because you actually had HCV, not HBV growing up.
when I was in 6th grade, the doc thought i had hepatitis, but it was not clear. he finally dianosed me with mono (chronic). come to find out, it was nona-nonb hepatitis (commonly known as HCV these days).
they probably just thought you had hbv because the hcv wasn't well thought of as a kid disease back in the day. to give it a name, they probably just assumed it was hbv.
