I believe in myself and those things which I have proof of.

What a silly question. We all believe in lots of things. We all believe that the sun will come up each morning and set each night. Ancient people believed this only happened because a sun god rode his chariot every day. I believe it is because the earth is spherical and rotates on its axis, causing us to face the sun directly once every 24 hours.

I believe that the human mind is wonderful and glorious thing. I believe that some people thing that wonderful and glorious things can only be created by a god. I don't share that belief, but instead belief that there are many ways for complexity to arise out of simplicity.

I believe in the power of the scientific method as a means for rejecting false beliefs and for confirming new beliefs.

I believe my 18 month old daughter is the most precious thing alive.

That is just a small sample of my beliefs.

Depends on how you are using the word "believe".

If you are using it in a religious sense, the answer is "no".

If you mean to assume something is true, the answer is "yes".

Since most people don't understand these two uses are very different, I avoid using the word "believe", trying not to give the wrong impression.

To believe means to take on faith without any proof or validation from testing. Atheists tend to try to avoid accepting things that cannot be proven or verified. Just seems like a reasonable thing to do. The actions of believers appears to be utter nonsense.

Farien 3 hit it right one the head. I do not call myself an atheist, because I do believe in a higher power, now that dosent mean it is the power that has been illustrated to us from the bible or any campfire stories from years of passing, but what that does mean is I recognize that there is something beyond my comprehension that allows me to dig deeper within myself. I do not categorize by saying it is god, I only let it be more by saying it is all god. It does not matter whether or not it makes sense to others or if to others it would be judged. The relationship that each individual person has with god, whether that be science, mathmatics, paranormal acitvity, faith, aliens, whatever we call it, it is not meant to be understood by the masses but from the individuals. To say the word god is to imply that there is more, and because I can recognize that in my own perception of myself makes me a christian, a budhist, a hindu, a pagan, and even an atheist who believes only in the explained principles of god.
I wish you well

In the sense of do I believe the sun will come over the horizon tomorrow? Of course I do! Do I believe that Abraham Lincoln existed? Of course! What exactly are you getting at?

Do you mean do I believe in any god or religion?

A =non/not
theism = god/s

Notice it's not defined as only rejecting the xian god. Then there would be a couple of billion atheists in the world.

No, I don't think an Atheist will believe in ANYTHING, because we don't believe in a god or gods. However, I do believe that I will die some day. I also believe it will probably snow here this winter. Generally, the beliefs of an Atheist are usually based on something other than a fairy tale.

Depends on the person. "Atheist" literally means "without god"--but there are plenty of belief systems that require no belief in gods. For example, Buddhism is an atheistic religion.

Yes, I believe Jesus Christ is largely if not wholly fictional and I believe God is fictional.
You have to feel it in your heart and be an atheist to understand.
I believe religion is an opportunist mind-virus passed on from one infected person to the next.
