Is it my God given right to own slaves?

According to the Bible, yes. If you read "Uncle Tom's Cabin" you can read how slave owners at that time quoted the Bible to justify slavery.

By the way here I have a bushism about slavery:

"It's very interesting when you think about it, the slaves who left here to go to America, because of their steadfast and their religion and their belief in freedom, helped change America." —George W. Bush, Dakar, Senegal, July 8, 2003

I guess that depends on what "god" you are referring to. If you are referring to Yahweh of the Hebrew Bible, then it does seem that you have a right to own slaves, according to the Bible. I don't know if it says anything about arms.

However, I believe that the Bible is mistaken about God. The real God would not want you to own slaves. He values each one equally. I am not sure what the real God would say about arms. I personally hate weapons, but recognize that some people use them only for protection, and I won't condemn them.

Jesus disciples carried knives and swords for protection - I suppose they would have been packing heat too if guns were invented then. Lots of slavery. So I guess it is a God given right. But I guess I worship the constitution more than the bible because although I do bear arms, per all men are created equal and the 13th amendment no slavery (not that I would anyway)

God gave no person the right to bear arms, the government makes the rules.
As for slavery, owning people, is that like when they do something for you and you slap them in the face with a paycheck? (try and live without one)

You have a constitutional right to arms, not so sure about slaves.

There sure are a lot of references to slaves in the Holy Bible. So owning slaves is probably OK too.

No. Regardless of your religious belief, the US is a secular country (separation of church and state). Therefore, nothing in the "state" law can be "God-given" because a belief in the Christian god is irrelevant to matters of law in the US. You are right to be confused though, because although the US claims to secular, "In God We Trust" is still printed on the currency, plus countless other contradictions to secularization.

It is your God given right to strive for the freedom to keep and bear arms. And once that feedom is achieved to continue the fight to keep it..... God dose not wish for his people to enslave or to be enslaved.... and a Nation of well armed free men will fight to the death to keep that freedom...because if they do not they will be enslaved.

It isnt your God-given right, unless the founders of the government are your gods. : )

Your God given rights are the right to life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness. (Its self-evident, after all)
