We are remodeling a house to sell it, originally we were going to live there and it didn't work out. Anyway, the only thing we have picked out is the carpet, it's going to be the new style like kind of a shag with a tan base and lots of color flecks throughout. What are the best choices for paint colors for the walls? Also what kind of cabinets should we choose for the kitchen? And would wood floors or tile be better for the living room/kitchen/hall areas, and what kind? Oh yeah, we also need to choose light fixtures, what would be best? We want to choose things that would be most pleasing to any type of buyer.

Yes, I agree with talking to a realtor to see what buyers are looking for. I would also go around and look at model homes in your area. It is a fun hobby of mine to see what designers are using to sell homes. I have also built 2 homes and sold a home recently... You definately need color these days. Nothing too unique or bold..but definately SOME color.

Maple, and Cherry cabinets are very "in" right now along with wood (wide planks and diagonal are really nice..and make the rrom look larger) or stone tile floors.(diagonal again..makes room look larger...more expensive for installation though)

The lighting fixtures will depend on cabinets and floors. The fixtures should ALL coordinate though..they will really tie the rooms together.
Dont forget to finish your cabinets with handles and knobs. These should coordinate with the lighting fixtures.

Good Luck!

Use a vintage white so that the new homeowners can choose there own color since the rug may have several little colors in it.
I also believe white cabinets that reflect the ceiling lights in the kitchen would be nice. Wood floors would look nice in the other areas. Light fixtures, sky lights that dim in kitchen and living room. Candle looking lights on the sides of the wall in the hall.

I love the frieze carpets! For me, a house has to have carpet everywhere but the kitchen (I even have carpet in my bathroom). I would be more attracted to a wood floor than a ceramic floor.

We just re-did our kitchen. We bought unfinished oak cabinets and used a clear coat to bring out the natural color of the wood. We did not add any pulls.

For light fixtures we chose an art deco with a nickel finish.

I would leave the walls white. It is the easiest color to paint over for the new homeowners.

You want to pick neutral shades of course! White, tans, taupes, beiges are the norms.
Stay away from primary or jewel tones.

Speak to a real estate person in your specific area to see what buyers are looking for.
I have white kitchen cabinets. I do not like wood or tile myself, too cold and it is not feel like home. I prefer carpeting. However, those finishes might be expected in your area.

White or neutral shades. When someone is looking for a home they what to see something that their furniture can fit into with little work. Tan, beige, white and off whites are good choices and are appealing to home buyers. Good luck.
