When God was asked what he was he simply said I am what I am. I know this leaves much to describe but there is a fine line in believing and knowing. If you want a scientific explanation. Perhaps it would be best to describe him as positive energy. The source of all creation. For energy is in all things. And when they ask if he is in all things this means evil as well you can say God gave us freewill to do with his energy what we will. If it is evil you seek then it is evil you will find.

Think of the movie "Bruce Almighty" ... that is not a good example of God.
God is the trinity, and the trinity is the Father, Son (That's Jesus), And holy spirit.
God is hard to describe. He has been described as pure love, like actual love itself. God isn't like some sort of Santa Claus that givs gifts to people who do good stuff. He's the creator and origin of everything. Another thing to ponder about God is that he is outside time. The first thing in the Bible is Genesis 1:1 "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth" So Beginning is the start of time, and God was before it. He's not some sort of ruler, like a king on a throne, but rather this omnipresent (everywhere) being watching over mankind. Think about that, and see, what the bible says too.

After forty-nine years of growing, walking, stumbling, running away, and teaching with more learning, I have come to understand that it is okay to not know how to define God.
"Source of positive energy" doesn't go far enough. There is no "positive" energy, or "negative" energy. God is energy itself. But of course, we must then ask, "But what is energy?"
We only can sense, and each one senses in their own way, the deeply found knowledge/experience of God; but to put it into words only leads to more words.
God is as the atmosphere, filling everything, even these images called physical reality; the images are unreal, but the power that brings them is very real, for it is the power of God; God is All That Is (This does not mean God is evil, starvation, disease...it means nothing else can exist but God, and God is only perfect Love). I would actually rather experience "Him" than define "Him".

Very difficult question! For instance look at the human eye. The human eye can see colors, movement take in everything around us. Nothing has ever come close to doing the same as this small thing in ones head. And even today we do not truly understand all that it does. God created it from the dust of the ground! There are many examples, the spinning of the earth, the cycle of water, sun rising, etc.

The New Testament says God is a Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship Him in Spirit. If He is Omnipotent and Omniscient, then our English language has no words adequately to describe God. I think the best answer for your friends is: "He is something you have to experience, not describe in words." Other passages include: "To them gave He the power to become Sons of God." So people have to seek Him earnestly, then He will grant them the power to understand. If you are not familiar with it, go to www.biblegateway.com and you will be amazed at their free research facilites. Search for the two passages (1) God is a Spirit and (2) Sons of God.

Well, I describe God as the Ultimate Supreme Being. As most major religions have sort of Supreme Being--God is the Ultimate. He created everything around us, including us. God is the One that Was, Is, and Is to Come!!

I have written on here a few times: God=>Universe or all of the knowledge and power thereof. Everything as one or all inclusive. With this knowledge all things become possible even God the Deity.

There are volumes and volumes describing the nature of God. You want one sentence?
Try "God" is omnipotent -- that "He" is all-powerful; nothing is beyond "His" capability; no power stronger; superior in every way; that
"God" is omniscient -- that "He" is all-knowing; nothing is outside or beyond "His" knowledge; no mind smarter; perfect in knowledge; that
"God" is omnipresent -- that "He" is everywhere in the universe at all times simultaneously; nothing is beyond "His" reach; "He" is at one with time and space and yet outside; and that
"God" is omni-benevolent -- that "He" is always good; incapable of evil; no greater love; "He" is perfect in every way.
That is a start but not even a beginning.
