My brother and his wife are taking high quantities of niacin as opposed to taking statins. Their doctors seem to be OK with it & they both claimed it has worked.

I know you have to "build up" to a certain level slowly. Anybody know the routine?

I will ask my doctor about it the next time I go in (a couple of months).

Niacin in large enough quantities to lower cholesterol can cause liver problems. But if diet doesn't work, stat ins and niacin are your only choices. It's better than the boneyard.

I don't know about that.... but if you want an effective and safe way to lower cholesterol levels, begin a walking program.

Start with 15 minutes a day for a week, and then add 5 minutes to your walk the following week. In about 12 weeks you could be up to an hour, but don't push yourself... take your time. Walk at a pace that is comfortable and safe, a pace that you could hold a conversation with out getting winded.

Be consistent and you will notice many health benefits including lowered bad cholesterol levels. Consult you physician about starting any exercise program - walking is a good choice for beginning one.

Drink Much More Water Drink Like Two Gallons. [[ a day ]] That's What I Do And One Time I Went To The Doctors For A Checkup And He Told Me I Had To Drink More Soda Because My Cholesterol Was Way Down.

Lecithin is also supposed to lower cholesterol. You need to take 2 tablespoons of granular lecithin at every meal.

Don't worry about your cholesterol. You don't need to be on a low cholesterol diet. Cholesterol and saturated fat does not cause heart disease. That's a myth. And the American Heart Association knows it too but they won't admit they've been wrong for the last 30 years.

yes it can but be careful it dilates blood vessels inb the face so that one of the side effects is a flushed hot feeling on the face that is temporary
