Nice try, but English does not have as many words for abomination as Hebrew
In Leviticus 18:22 the abomination of lying with a man as with a woman is tow'eba (abomination) Strong's 08441
In Leviticus 11:9-12 the abomination of eating shrimp (sea creatures without both fins and scales) is sheqets (abomination) Strong's 08263
It merits concern for religious persons that others commit tow'eba but the abomination of sheqets is of lesser concern and only affects the individual.

I will address the eating of shrimp. Shrimp are like the roaches of the sea. They go through the water and filter out the toxins so that the other fish would have cleaner water. That is what God put them there for. The nation of Israel were told not to eat shrimp for that reason. This food was considered "unclean". It makes perfect sense to me. I am a Christian and I do not eat shrimp. However, there are those that do since they say we are no longer under the Mosaic Law Code. If people are going to insist on eating this, I don't think they will be condemed for it. However, I really think if God took the time to give the nation of Israel, His chosen ones, this law it would be a good idea to follow it. Not obeying God's laws bring heaps of bad things on our heads like disease. The nation of Israel had the healthiest people in the ancient world because of the sanitary laws that He gave them.During the middle ages, the Jewish people did not suffer from the Plague as the rest of the nations because they were still following the dietary and sanitary laws given their forefathers. God's people are a clean people. He created us, and I have faith that He knows what is in our best interest. Being sexually immoral is also not in our best interest and brings about inequity. If we learn to follow the Word of the Creator, we will be healthy, wealthy, and wise.

OK lets start with the first passage. God has deemed it wrong in His sight that a man sleeping with a man sexually and woman with a woman sexually. God had made it that a man and woman should join together to reproduce. Hope that clears that up.
Now, for the second passage on food. Yes God did say in the OLD Testament there were certain foods that we were not suppose to eat like shrimp and pork products, not to mention you were not suppose to combine other foods together while cooking and eating. However, if you read in the NEW Testament, God tells Paul (at this point I can't remember if it was Peter or Paul but I am using Paul) why is Paul calling anything God created "unclean". From then on we are allowed to eat what ever!!
You need to get a life on the shrimp boat buddy!!! You can not ban foods do to religion in the United States because it contradicts the Constitution in regards to religious freedom. Doesn't the Bible also tell us not to condemn what others do in the name of our Lord? Read the Bible and the US Consitution before you make stupid comments!! Let me know after you have educated yourself and I will be happy to discuss these topics with you!!!

I think these are excellent questions. The Hebrew word that gets translated "abomination" is toevah. Unlike what the English translation implies, toevah did not usually signify something intrinsically evil, but something ritually unclean for Jews. Eating pork, shellfish, lobster, eating meat 3 days old, trimming beards, etc is just as much an "abomination". So, as you say, homosexuality and eating shrimp or pork are in the same category of RITUAL impurity, in a system that is no longer practiced today.
Note that Bible scholars do not use Strong's concordance as a lexicon, as some here seem to have done. Strong's is a concordance, not a lexicon, and reflects understandings of meaning that are over 100 years old. Over a century of study and translations of ancient texts such as the Dead Sea Scrolls have caused our understandings of meaings to be refined and updated.

I know of no place in the Bible that says it is an "abomination" to eat Shrimp. Unless you are being sarcastic(!!) you must have read that somewhere as some lunatics opinion. To answer your question about the meaning of "abomination", it is something evil and distasteful. So I am sure what God is trying to convey here is that Man was made for woman and woman for man for the purpose of procreation and family life, and that any perversion of that norm is unacceptable and not his Will. But I am sure that if you say "God I am hungry", he just might say, "How about some lovely shrimp."

Wow..you thought about that a lot. Does it really say that eating shrimp is an abomination??? Odd..maybe thats why I am allergic to it..LOL..does that mean that all the people who LOVE shrimp...are going to hell?? Weird..I'm going to look more into this..
I think people are weary of Gay marriage cause Psychically is isn't natural..a man and a woman were made to fit together. All of my Gay friends know that I agree with this..but that doesn't mean they don't love each other. I feel that everyone can love someone unconditionally. Marriage doesn't always need to be brought it.
The other way I look at it is, America is prided on being moral and different. If we were to change our laws we might as well still be under control of europe. If someone doesn't like the laws they can go somewhere that allows gay Marriage.
I don't however feel that you can go to hell if you are gay. I feel that as long as you love..and love whole heartedly...that God with love you and understand you and will allow you into heaven. Heaven is about love isn't it?

i think of which you're asking a stable question and one that merits a much extra valuable scientific care (scholarly diagnosis) than you will get from R&S. i'm additionally extremely taken aback that for the time of your college did not conceal not purely countless translations however the interpretation strategies and sources. extra, they should have a minimum of stated that countless sects understand diverse instruments of the Bible books. I recommend which you spend some honest time discovering this as this is a reasonably exciting and eye beginning problem (exceedingly approximately human beings's thought concerning the accuracy of the KJV). it would additionally be a stable thought to look into King James slightly as you will locate that his authorization of a translation replaced into an exceedingly politically brought about circulate.

There are cultural explanation to these kinds of prohibitions in the Torah. For example (male) homosexuality is forbidden since it's a commandment for men to marry a woman and have children. Sea foods like shrimps are not kosher, but I have no idea why Christians are so eager condemning homosexuality and not shrimps.
The Hebrew word for abomination is "toevah"

Remember, the so-called "Old Testament" is believed by the pious to be the directly dictated word of God, spoken to Moses on Mt. Sinai (Or Horeb).
The new testament was written by people desparate to force their new beliefs down everybody's throats. Jewish law made life very complex and the whole idea was "make it simple, not too many restrictions" and people will come flocking to us.
So, they believe in the divinity of JC but of course he was a good Jewish boy so naturally, he would have obeyed all the laws to the letter. It was Paul who came to the concept with loads of outlandish ideas and forged a new set of myths for his adoring public. Mind you, if he'd told them to commit suicide, most of them would have obeyed - like some modern cults.
So, if you believe in the word of God, you have no choice byt to follow the Torah (Old Testament Pentateuch) to the letter. Out with pork, shellfish, shatnetz (mixed fibres), homosexuality, etc.
BtW, just for mamabecki - shrimp is classed as shellfish and is therefore NOT kosher.

You really need to read the context of the "abomination" Some are abomination to God, and are therefore always wrong. Some were to Israel, specifically, and were a matter of there separation from the world.
