She's allergic to something

There could be a lot of reasons she is scratching herself that aren't flea related. It really depends on where she is scratching. could be everything from dry skin, to the type of dog shampoo you are using. All the way up to environment and food allergies. I have an 8 year old lab that I went through this same problem with. She had chronic ear infections. And when she didn't have an ear infection she was scratching herself bloody and bald!! the vet I am currently with after watching this go on for a month, asked if I'd ever had her tested for allergies. I said no. Sure enough when the allergy test came back, it was off the charts. Everything from major food allergies to environmental allergies.
by far i'm not a vet, and not saying your dog has allergies, but if you try everything else and nothing fixes the problem, you might want to have her tested for allergies.
Good luck!
If i can help you in any other way im me at ange_narcissique

I went through the same problem with my schnauzer. I tried everything including $$$ in tests run by vet. Nothing solved. The latest was a shampoo by "Happy Jack" called "Itch No more" It works! It has no detergent only coal tar and sulfur...but leaves her skin soft and so much better. It doesn't small bad either and it's not expensive. I took her back to the vet yesterday and he was amazed at the results. I hope you find what works best for you.

Fleas are only one reason for a dog to itch. You need to take her to your vet and have a complete exam done. Examination of the skin and coat give a lot of information about the problems. There can be anything from inhalant allergies ( atopy), food allergies, dry skin, other ectoparasites, skin infections with yeast and/or bacteria, and still others. Your vet may recommend anything from medication trials, diet trials, allergy testing, or other things.

It could be allergies. There are food allergies as well as dust or grass allergies. My Lab has allergies and will scratch himself bald if he comes into contact with fleas. He is on Revolution but that does not mean fleas still can not bite him out in the fields. I give him Benedryl and it helps relieve the problem.
