What type of hair do you have? The best, most affordable hair straighteners are "relaxers". Revlon, Motions, Mizani and Organic ROOT Stimulator™ Olive Oil Relaxer Kit. They are gentle on all types of hair. Contrary to popular belief, relaxers are for all hair types, since African Americans / Blacks / other people of African descent have various hair textures. "Relaxers" and other products that are marketed for "African American" do well on any hair type. You just have to use the right one.

I myself have fine, fragile hair that I treat well on a regular basis with products such as olive oil. Natural cooking olive oil is best. Other olive oil hair products on the market add chemicals and other unnecessary ingredients. And, cooking olive oil bought at the grocery store is a deal, compared to marked prices in beaty supply stores / drug stores is way more affordable. You get more olive oil per ounce. Carrot oil is great, too.

Depending on the type of hair grade / texture you have, there are certain amounts of hair products you need to use. For instance, if you hair is fine and straight, you'll want to use products that are labeled "light" or non-heavy. Avoid products with alcohol in them, as they dry out hair. Chemically treated hair, no matter what texture must be moisturized frequently. I noticed from experience that, even individuals with fine, sleek or striaghter hair textures can put oil in their hair to retain moisture, expecially if they wash their hair frequently, have chemically treated hair, or use hot appliances often. They can use a dime-sized drop or less, for sheen and moisture. Natural olive oil is great for hot oil treatments. Believe me, it works!

I also love Golden Hot appliances. There's a ceramic bumper I bought recently at my local beauty supply store, with up to 30 heat settings that can be used for all hair textures. It was only $32! Black hair products are great, because they can be used on any type of hair.

Recenltly, I tried the Olive Oil relaxer on my hair. My father (who is an expert when it comes to doing relaxers, due to the fact that both him and my mother experimented during their teens with hair on themselves and their many friends) applied it for me (because I'm too scared to put any chemical in my hair by myself). My hair was super managable, very soft, after that. I truly recommend it.

*** Another important tip to keep in mind: always put natural cooking olive oil in your hair before relaxer/chemical application. It protects the hair from breakage. Even though I have fine hair, I douse it with natural olive oil a day before or right before applying "relaxer". Whenever my mother "relaxes" my hair, she uses Revlon with mild strength. My father also uses mild. It's super gentle on hair, and is best suited for fine or straighter textures. I even recommend it on curly hair, unless the user has eally course hair and would prefer to use extra-strength to get a straighter look. However, with even a mild "relaxer" and a blow/set/flat-iron/curl/bump/hot-comb, extra strength is NOT needed. Unless of course, they prefer a straight look.

And, ALWAYS have a professional apply relaxer to your hair. If you decide to go to a Black / Dominican salon or hairstylist to do your hair (since they have experience with working with diverse
hair textures), the cost can vary anywhere from $40 to $50. If they charge over $100, then you know it's a rip off.

Best of luck!

Truly,
Aria*

A Chi Ceramic Flat Iron. My hair is very difficult to straighten, and a chi is just about the only straightener that really works for my hair. And it's fast!

it depends what thickness you hair is!? if you have think hair then i say ghd's as they work a wonder but its a waste of money spending £100 on them if you have thin hair because remingtons and babyliss are alot cheaper and work great on my hair, which is thin!
