I am visiting an out of state friend in a couple of week. My friend just lost her daughter. I would like to bring a small gift with me when I visit. I'm flying- so keep in mind the new flight restrictions.
I'm looking for any good ideas.

A memoir or a book. Something that is touching or something that would be sentimental would be nice.

I agree with the book idea. the Chicken Soup books are good to give as gifts. Depending on the prefernce of the friend really. Does she like to read and if she does is there a book she has wanted but never been able to buy? But I completely agree on the book idea. Sometimes escaping into a good book is better then being where she is right now. If that makes any sense. I wish you luck and I am deeply sorry for your firends loss. You sound like a terrifc friend and I bet she is happy having you come visit.

In general, I think any gift you give to someone during this time is grateful. It can be difficult to find a gift that is appropriate to give though. You can send her flowers or some sort of inspirational gift. Most of all, just being there for her, in her time of need is the best gift.

I think food is the traditional gift for those circumstances. If you can't bring her cooked food I would offer her some gift certificates for some eateries. And maybe even a spa certificate that she could use whenever she was ready.

I would sent something or wait until you get there to buy a gift. How about a plant or a tree.

was it one of the 5 girls that got shot ? just comfort her, i dont think a gift is really worth it, unless its kind of connected to her daughter.
