Greetings,
A Christian cross has it's crossmembers about two thirds of the way up the main member. An Iron cross misnamed only because the German war machine adopted it was originally know as a Maltese Cross scince the knights of Malta established it for their own particular religious order. NO it is not originally a secular icon.

A Cristian cross looks like a lower case t while an Iron Cross, an icon of the German war machine, looks like some one cut corner wedges out of a square. (look at pro wrestler HHH's logo)
