Are there special exercises I can do that won't make me worse? I'm seven weeks pregnant and have been suffering from sciatic back pain for about ten years.

Hi Summer...i feel for you girlfriend!!!! I have severe scoliosis, last yr. i had to have my lumber fused!!! And you being pregnant you can't really take any narcotic pain pills like i do but all i can really tell ya is to take HOT bath or showers and try to SLOWLY stretch in the morning and i found another really good thing you could do is WATER AEROBICS!!! It doesn't put pressure on your joints or anything..................good luck to you and the baby!!

Quit the exercising for now. Lay on some ice for 15 minutes, then heat for 15 minites. Keep doing that off and on thru out the day, for a few days.. Itll help, but stay away from the exercising till you feel better. Id give it a week or so.
Also, that lower back pain may not go away till after after the baby is born. I would recommend a chiropractor for the sciatica pain, but only after you have the baby. I went to one recently and it helped me alot.

When I hurt my back several years ago, the physical therapist gave me a set of exercises to do that mostly involved leg and arm stretching of various kinds while laying on the floor to improve flexibility. If your insurance will cover it, talk to a physical therapist about it. And while you're at it, buy a lumbar support pillow for your car seat / computer chair. It will help a lot.
I've never been to a chiropractor before, but as the previous person said, that would be just as good if your insurance covers it.

I go to a special chiropractor called an Atlas Orthogonist. There is no manipulation. Look it up on the web - well worth a visit to at the least to see if they can help you.
