Not for a European or Asian kid, but for an American kid she's off the charts!

j/k, she's just a normal smart kid, not doogie howser.

I wouldn't choose her friends based on them not knowing "ten to the power of two" and stuff like that.

My son is 6 and was spitting off things like that since he was 5. It just depends on the kid.

A good friend is hard to find, so taking hers away just because you think they aren't smart enough for her will hurt her in the end. Her friends obviously aren't hurting her now if you think she is overly smart, so why take them away.

She may be advanced in comparison to her classmates. Some schools have gifted education support for students who are always the kid with the right answer, always gets straight A's, etc. Contact your school district with the question & ask to have her tested. She may not need the gifted support but it doesn't mean she isn't an extremely bright young lady. As to hanging out with smarter friends, allow her to choose her friends (as long as her friends don't get her in trouble). Eventually, she will discover similarities with other smart kids & have new friends. Don't push that issue though - she still needs to be a kid no matter how smart she is.

I think you would know best if your daughter is overly smart and if you don't then maybe you aren't too bright yourself. Moms usually know best. She should be allowed to hang out with the kids that she enjoys being around and not just smart kids.

the powers are taught in some states as soon as third grade
All schools are supposed to be teaching core democratic values and political is a word that you hear on tv often.
There are many kinds of smart............no one no one can be overly smart and how would you treat your child differently if she was labeled " gifted". Challenge her to become the best she can be socially and academically..........emotionally and intellectually.
Don't worry about the IQ. worry about the character and the example that you are setting.

No..

Don't try to tell her who she can and can't hang out with.

She's not overly smart. It's not that big a deal to know a little higher level math and the definition of "political".

No she's not super smart, she just excells in things her friends don't. She should be hanging out with friends she gets along with and who's company she enjoys. She's not a genius...I doubt she would qualify for MENSA. I'm sure there are things other girls do much better than her.

i knew this stuff at age 6 and people didn't think I was overly smart. Seems like her friends are intellectually challenged.

all children are different, booksmart, is one thing, but as long as all her friends have good old fashioned common sense, then i would say they are pretty decent friends, no one knows everything!, I wouldnt judge her friends based on how much they know, because she may know more!...My son is the same way, but he has a tendency to choose children that are on his level academically and socially. As long as the children are being raised right i wouldnt worry about how much (book smarts)they have, unless they are being left behind a grade.!

hell no I WAS WAY TOO SMART. At age 7, i was mentally abused by my father. you wont believe this, but at the ripe age of 9 i was proficient at trigometry and calculous (okay at quadriatic equations). at 10 when i started school i had to take !14! placement tests which determined i would go to HS. currently, ima junior and love it.

are they being mean to her or just impressed? If they are nice kids why would you want her to hang out with smarter kids. IQ doesn't equal good personality
