This kind of exit is if of TREMENDOUS importance in India. A whole science was evolved in the ancient times to propagate this. Great masters contributed their lifetimes for attaining this.
Simply stated, it just means, to leave the body AT WILL, without the need to mutilate it in any manner what-so-ever !
When a spiritual person attains this capability, he can make an exit by announcing his will to exit from his body, at an appointed time, and makes arrangements for 'what is to be done' of his body, and such a place is called "Jeeva('when alive') Samadhi('leaving the body') " of that person ! Only when a demonstration of this type happened , the onlookers understood a very significant truth, THAT ANY OTHER KIND OF DEATH IS ACCIDENTAL !
