Sometimes I think I'm too lenient but at least my daughter and I have good open communication. I think that is more important than being a controlling parent. We discuss our ideas and feelings on any issue and in the end it is up to her to make the decision. If I said "no" to everything, then my teen would likely rebel and do it anyway. I can't very well lock her in her room. The positive side to "picking my battles" though is that when I do say "no" then she accepts my decision.

I would like to say that I am but I know I have screwed up many times in trying to do the right thing. Kids don't come with instruction manuals and its a learn as you go basis. The most important thing I have learned though is that you should not only tell your kids you love them but show them too. And when discipline is necessary, look them in the eye and let them know EXACTLY why they are being punished so that they understand. Its a hard and thankless job but I just keep positive that I'm doing the best I can and my kids love me--they tell me often--they are good kids, smart and respectful so I must be doing something right.

I think that we all try our best but parenting did not come with instruction book, we have to try and learn, sometimes we make mistakes, but I wish I can be more patient with my children, I get upset easily and I hate that

yes i consider my self as a good parent i work very hard for a living i put in many hrs. a day when I'm out at the mine. i make sure all my bills are paid on time when they are due. i always try & put in some over time during my long change so that my family can buy the things that longly desire. my son never goes with clothes on his back hes always sent to school with clean clothes, & holeless shoes. we never go with out food, i teach my son right from wrong, he is a great kid as long as i keep him in line. i never spank my son i use the grounded method & that seems to hurt him the most. i spend all my days off with my family my wife & i are what you might say stay at home mom & dad. my son has never had a baby sitter his mom & me are always at home with him we do not go out at the bars with our friends only time we do see them is at some event thats going on here in town. besides i see my friends out at work i think thats plenty.

I try to. I don't know if I am though. I wasn't ready to be a mom, but I do my best to educate my son. And of course I love him to death.
