Ok this is really odd...ever since I can remember I've always had a problem speaking to people...sometimes my brain would just freeze other time I know what I would want to say but when I spoke I didn't make sense... This happens a lot...The doc's said I have ADD...I quit taking the meds cause they made me dizzy and a drone....Another symptom is that when I look at something or hear something it just doesn't register. I can stare at something and it will be like it wasn't there. Then I'll go back and look again and whatever I was looking for will be right in front of my face.. I just zone out into another world...I don't want to be put on drugs because I feel that it only temporarily fixes the problem...I need to work on myself from within... anyone have any ideas or suggestions? I would really appreciate any advice or someone else's story...Thanks guys!

sort of sounds like dissociation and anxiety (often related to trauma or child neglect/abuse) or could be a medical condition. see a reputable psychiatrist - s/he will want to first rule out any type of medical condition and also based on the info you give should be able to recommend appropriate doctor for tests and/or therapist. they do understand when ppl really want alternatives to meds, but you may need to be real clear about it. ADD seems to be a catchall for everything these days. i'd definitely get another opinion, and what you're describing is not within a gp's field of expertise. btw, seeing a psychiatrist does not mean you're mentally ill! It's just most likely the fastest route to those who can rule out other disease and those who can help without using meds.

Perhaps you should see a neurologist. Petit mal seizures are seizures where people stare and zone out temporarily and then come back to the real world. I have epilepsy that is controlled but I have had petit mal and grand mal seizures. Sometimes we need to take medicines to live more normal lives because of chemical imbalances. You should be taking a B vitamin complex and a multimineral/vitamin supplement and getting enough magnesium. Our diets have a big impact on our brain health too.

Did you have a traumatic experience?? Sounds like something that would occur to someone who faced something extremely traumatic. I would consult a counselor maybe the two of you can dig up the answer from within and then work it out. Good luck!

Get a second medical opinion, whether your problem is physical or psychological.
