The flu is a virus and is always changing. Its never the same from one year until the next. Some years, its a mild form and most people don't even get their flu shots. In some years, the strain is deadly and even with the shot, you can still get a good case, but not as bad.
If you are wondering why men have more trouble with the flu, its cause they are naturally lite weights when it comes to being sick. Most men can handle it too well and require more TLC from their wives. Woman on the other hand, deal with sickness and child birth so, they are actually much stronger mentally than most men. Now, before I get into trouble, guys, its just facts. When your sick, you think you are gonna die and the world is ending.
Get a flu shot yearly over 40 years old or if your health is poor to begin with. Don't take a chance, the flu can kill, so protect yourself.

Tell me about it!
My Husband has just has "Man Flu" he refused to take his painkillers but then moaned constantly that his throat hurt.
"Well it will dear if you don't take your painkillers......"
Then on the second day he decided he wanted to see the doctor, I of course had to make the appointment for him, he was "too weak" I told him that the doctor would probably not do anything anyway as flu is a virus and they will just tell you to rest, take fluids and painkillers (as I had been telling him all along) but he needed to hear it from a doctor.
Anyway, the Doctor saw him and did just as above, but since co-incidentally we had just come back off holiday in a malarial area a few weeks ago too some blood to test for Malaria.
So of Course now he not only has Flu he now thinks he has malaria too
AAARGH! Men! :-(

I have heard that it is psychological. Apparently being ill is sometimes the only time that a man can let down his guard and allow to be mothered. Men usually like to be aloof and hate to think about feelings but sometimes they need that extra bit of tender loving care. Although I believe this is true and is quite sad really, I still say "suck it up" because I am not playing a mothering role to a big, strong man!!! Bless!

LOL, honestly I don't think that the flu whether you are a man or woman is any different. Men have a feeling of needing to feel strong and powerful and when they have the flu they aren't able to be "strong and powerful" because they are put into a situation where they are weaker and rely on the help of others. And it doens't help that us women like to baby them when our men are sick. So, to reinterate. The flu is the same man or woman! Just depends on your personality.

Well, I was thinking about this the other day as I currently have a SEVERE cold!
And I came up with this......women claim to have a higher pain threshold for having babies etc. This means that since men have a lower pain threshold, ailments such as the common cold affect us in a far worse way than women.

It isn't, unless they've tried to be 'manly' and deny anything is actually wrong until you catch them about to fall down.
Otherwise, a lot of men tend to just be a bit dramatic. Not that they really mean to, but it does hail back to the days where men competed rather vigorously for female attention!

Women are biologically more fit when it comes to pain endurance. It's a scientific fact. We were made for the pain of childbirth.

Because they can only handle one thing at a time.
sneezing and a headache is too confusing for them and they have to moan even more to cope with the pressure
