There are three key factors to fitness:

Aerobic - which strengthens the heart

Weight training- which strengthens the muscles

Diet - the fuel for your body

Exercise effects the body, mind and soul. It starts on the inside, you feel better; then the outside, you look better; and finally the mind, you are able to think better.

Fitness should become a lifestyle; not something you get excited about for 2 weeks or a month. It is recommended that you start slowly. Walking is the best way to get started. It truly is amazing the difference a short walk can make both physically and mentally.

There are many health benefits that can occur from walking such as:

Lowers cholesterol
Lowers blood pressure
Helps to burn calories
Lowers the need for insulin for diabetics
Increases endorphin production, which gives you a sense of well being
Improves self image
Walking is just the beginning. Don't forget resistance weight training and your diet. When you exercise, eat right, and get the rest you need, your body responds positively.

Exercise can strengthen the heart, which is a muscle. If you have an unconditioned man and a conditioned man and they sit for 24 hours and do nothing, he unconditioned heart will beat approximately 80 beats a minute and the conditioned heart will beat aproximately60 beats minute. Over a 24-hour period the unconditioned heart will beat approximately 30,000 times more than the conditioned heart.

Muscle burns more calories than fat, which means if we increase our lean body mass we will lose, weight and be able to eat more. If you have a pound of fat and a pound of muscle and it sits for 24 hours and does nothing, the pound of fat will burn approximately 3 calories and the pound of muscle will burn approximately 30 calories. It takes 10 miles of running to use up the 1,000 calories in a cheeseburger, milkshake, and french fries.

By changing our lifestyle to include fitness in the way we live our life it will help us realize our full potential. Life is precious and by becoming fit you can live a healthier, happier and longer life.

And remember before you start any fitness program you should talk to your physician.

Cardiovascular heart disease is one of the greatest causes of death in the United States and other highly developed countries. The medical community has recognized the need of preventative medicine in our lives. Exercise and proper nutrition play an important role in the prevention of cardiovascular heart disease and other age related, debilitating diseases. A high level of fitness is important because it also contributes to the quality of life. The body adapts to stresses imposed upon it. The less one does, the less the body will be capable of doing. Lack of physical activity causes a phenomenon called disuse atrophy, a condition where the body begins to deteriorate because of non-use.

So you can really live in every sense of the word while you are here on Earth...otherwise you just drag around and live a life of silent desperation...trying to get from one day to another.....get fit and enjoy life...don't just endure it.
