When I turned 18 I got a phone line activated and I disconnected a few months later due to horrible service and never paid my bill of 30.00. Well that was almost 2 years ago when this happened. I have moved from my place and never have recieved any returned mail from the phone company. Well I guess the account went delinquent and now they are charging me over 200.00!!!! The credit agency finally found me September 7 and contacted me the first time to tell me about this, I haven't recieved a single piece of mail or a bill from these guys, so this is the first time hearing about this. Anyways, They said that they wanted this paid off right away and I said hey hold on I need a bill or something from you, you guys could just be any joe shmoe calling me asking for money. And they told me that they would send me something in the mail. Well it's been a month and I have yet to recieve anything and they keep calling daily and I keep telling them that I need a bill. What should I do?

Call and find out whom these people are. Tell them no bill no money. Another thing you could do is contact the phone company that you got the phone from. Chances are that some of this money is for the collection agency. Tell the phone company that you are willing to pay what you owe but that you want a bill from them. Or just pay the money directly to the phone company. Trust me they are not going to say no to getting the money. Also let the collection company know that you will turn them in for harrassment. They cannot do that to you. That is illegal.

Ask them for their mailing address. Then send a letter, certified, return receipt telling them that as per FCRA you are asking them not to contact you further. This will stop the phone calls. The real problem is, it is not the credit reporting bureau who is contacting you. It is a debt collector/agency. Do not speak with them anymore. Just don't answer or hang-up.

What you need to do is order your credit report from the big three angencies. You can do this for $30 to $40 or, you can do it for free once a year. Dispute the debt with any agency that has it listed on your report. Again site "as per FCRA" in your certified, return receipt letter. State you dispute the debt because you canceled it due to poor service. Worse case scenario you can stop the calls but it will remain on your report for five more years (for a total of seven years by law). Or, you could make an offer to settle the debt in exchange for them removing it from your credit report. Just make sure you get the offer or agreement in writing.

Call the company you got the phone from & tell them what happened. Say you want to pay the bill .They will work with you on the peniltys, discarding most if not all of them. Once you do this the bill collectors will have to stop bothering you ,'Its that or put up with it for 7 years. Sometimes we screw owerselves & you just have just have to do what takes to deal with it.
