I think this could be happenind because your windows account might not have admin rights. Log onto the admin account, i m sure you will be able to remove it.
If prob is still not solved, there is more tedious method for which you need support as it requires working with your system registry, please call toll free microsoft support now! As office 2000 support will be closed soon as office 2007 is going to be release next year.

Chris is correct -
Best bet, go to start - control panel - add/remove programs.
You'll see a list there, look through and find office and delete it.
If it tells you that you need the disk to delete it, I would recommend that you involve a local repair shop. They often have the disks on hand, and can do it for you in less than a half hour (about 25 - 30 dollars, probably). good luck!

Unfortunately, I haven't found any way to do it without an Office disk. I hope it isn't too badly screwed up.
