Let's just suppose its not imagination, and let's suppose its not spirits, what's the scientific or pyschological explanation in your opinion.

i have seen some wonderful pieces of automatic writing ... one piece i did have to do research on and found evidence of what was written and it made so much sense for me
i do not think that it is imagination at all
however i am sure that there are many pieces of writing that people claim came from spirit .. i would ask them to give me evidence of such and if it was spirit then they would be happy to provide that

Mental static, much like the weird background in otherwise meaningful dreams. That said, it can also be a powerful psychological tool.

I believe in Angels. The bible tells us they exist, as do demons. I do not believe in "ghosts" or "Spirits" those things are demons plain and simple

There is only one recorded incident in the Scriptures of the spirit of a dead human seeming to appear to someone, that of Samuel appearing to Saul. It's important to note that, if it was somehow actually the spirit of Samuel, as it seems to have been, the rare incident was to deliver a Godly message, not to scare or haunt anyone:

"The king said to her, "Have no fear; what do you see?"

"And the woman said to Saul, "I see a spirit coming up out of the earth."

"He said to her, "What is his appearance?"

"And she said, "An old man is coming up; and he is wrapped in a robe."

"And Saul knew that it was Samuel, and he bowed with his face to the ground, and did obeisance."

"Then Samuel said to Saul, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?"

"Saul answered, "I am in great distress; for the Philistines are warring against me, and God has turned away from me and answers me no more, either by prophets or by dreams; therefore I have summoned you to tell me what I shall do."

"And Samuel said, "Why then do you ask me, since The Lord has turned from you and become your enemy? The Lord has done to you as he spoke by me; for The Lord has torn the kingdom out of your hand, and given it to your neighbor, David. Because you did not obey the voice of The Lord, and did not carry out his fierce wrath against Amalek, therefore The Lord has done this thing to you this day. Moreover The Lord will give Israel also with you into the hand of the Philistines; and tomorrow you and your sons shall be with me; The Lord will give the army of Israel also into the hand of the Philistines."

"Then Saul fell at once full length upon the ground, filled with fear because of the words of Samuel; and there was no strength in him, for he had eaten nothing all day and all night." (1 Samuel 28:13-20 RSV)

It's also very important to note that Saul used a witch (1 Samuel 28:7) to consult that spirit, something that God commanded never to do:

"There shall not be found among you any one who burns his son or his daughter as an offering, any one who practices divination, a soothsayer, or an augur, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a medium, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to The Lord; and because of these abominable practices The Lord your God is driving them out before you." (Deuteronomy 18:10-12 RSV)

Are ghosts angels then? Well, angels did appear to humans quite often throughout Bible History, but they never did it in a "haunting" or obscure manner. They usually appeared in the form of humans, who identified themselves in a clear and dignified manner, while bringing a message or on a mission from God. There was no nonsense.

So, if "ghosts" do exist, and they're not humans (Luke 16:27-31 would indicate that no human spirits are allowed to return to visit the living without permission, and if permission is not granted for the purpose of warning people to flee from the wrath to come, it would not be given for trifling reasons.), or God's angels, what's left? Demons.

Demons are fallen angels who have become warped in thought and behavior. The very small number of "unexplainable" incidents (keeping in mind that most sightings are honest misperceptions, deliberate fabrications, or unhealthy delusions by the mentally ill) are very likely demons.

In Job 1:12-19, they manipulate people to do evil; they cause fire from the sky to consume herds of sheep; they cause a wind to blow down the house in which Job's children were staying. In the gospels a number of instances are recorded of demons possessing people (Matthew 8:16,28.; 9:32-33; 12:24; 15:22; 17:18; etc.) In these incidents, and several others, the manifestation of the demon possession involved some physical ailment (muteness, epilepsy, blindness, but sometimes supernatural strength). They also possessed the pigs before they ran into the waters and drown in Mt. 8:28.

If demons should happen to be manifesting their presence somewhere, I would ask myself why. Is there a heathen idol, a fetish used in heathen worship, etc. (Deuteronomy 32:16-17; Psalm 106:37-38; 1 Corinthians 10:19-21)? Or, perhaps there someone who has allowed themselves to become possessed by a demon or has allowed demonic involvement in their life by some repeated, serious sin (Ephesians 4:27). Any occult items in one’s possession should be burned as Paul and the other Christians treated the books that were burned in Acts 19:18 and any known sins should be confessed to God (1 John 1:9).

Again, I believe it is biblical to believe in demons and that what people believe to be hauntings are either the mere illusions of charlatans or involve actual demonic activity, the visiting by human spirits. I also believe that the use of channeling and seeking the guide of “spirit guides” or “spirit helpers” or to play with Ouija boards, tarot cards, séances, or to listen to Satanic heavy rock music, etc. is to actually invite the involvement of demons in one’s life. I also believe it is biblical to not become obsessed with them and with the spirit world. Nowhere in Scripture can you find any precedence for doing so. Rather we are to be consumed the word of God (Psalm 119), with knowing Christ (Philippians 3:8-10), serving Him as living sacrifices (Romans 12:1-2), and seeking to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:18-20, etc.). The only freedom that the lost can have from sin and the devil is through that found in Christ alone (John 8:32-36; Romans 6:16-23; Ephesians 2:1-10). It is His gospel that we need to concentrate on sharing with others. That gospel is the power of God for deliverance from sin and Satan (Romans 1:16; 1 Corinthians 1:18).

Demons have been around and know facts about history, and have easy access to historical records, births, deaths, even peoples feelings, that have died years before.
So then what or who are we seeing when a dead loved one appears to us, or when we see a person (ghost) in a house or basement ? This is a demonic spirit. Remember these beings have great knowledge of the past even can predict future events. These beings can appear as anyone of anything. Remember the Bible says even the devil (Satan) can appear as an angel of light ! The demons can shows up as orbs, people, animals and other things on film, or they can whisper, talk in echos, backwards, ancient languages, and more on voice recorders (EVP).

Some of the reasons these demons are appearing more and more around the country as ghosts are: They want folks to dabble in the occult, using such things as Ouija Boards, Pendulums, Automatic Writing and other satanic things to try to contact their dead loved ones, in reality all this will do is allow demonic activity to occur or manifest in the persons life.

Plus, the more people that start trying to talk to the dead, gives these beings a role in their human lives, something that should be filled by Jesus Christ and theHoly Spirit of God, not Satan !

Ecc 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
Job 7:9 As the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no more.Job 7:10 He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.

We are even WARNED to NOT even try talking or communicating with the dead ! Stay away from psychics, mediums, fortune tellers, Ouija boards, pendulums and any occult activity:
'Let no one be found among you ... Who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the Lord' (Deuteronomy 18:10-12)
