I'll even give you a story to tell.

I'm not a Christian; far from it. But a few times in the past year, I've gone down with a couple church groups to New Orleans to help build houses and, in one case, distribute food and blankets. I have to say I experienced God in two ways on those trips. The first was the people I was with. In a world of arguments over whose God is better and who is right, these people simply did exactly as Jesus commanded; they left their homes, families and jobs for a week or two to sleep on a cold floor in a leaky church and work all day, just to help people in need. Forget the dogma, forget the arguments, these people dropped their lives to help others.

The second was in the doing. We got to know the owners of every home we worked on, played with the kids while we rebuilt their bedrooms (this was maybe the most meaningful; one little boy was so happy he and his family would have a place to sleep again that he cried while he hugged us all), and sat and ate lunch with people having their first hot meal in weeks.

There's a verse in Romans, I think, that says something to the effect of this is religion; feeding the orphans and clothing the widows. And I believe that. Yes, church is good, prayer and worship are good, but to really experience God, see how it is to touch lives as Jesus touched them.

Hmm. Lots of ways. Sometimes "be still and know that He is God" is the best. Other times, I have to jump and shout and sing b/c of the joy in my heart :)

in the wonders of nature, the laughter of children, the feeling of peace and joy, a good book, seeing someone get good grades in school, seeing a good deed, are just a few there are many more.
