That's exactly what I thought when I heard what Jack Straw said.
Perhaps Jack Straw was "over rationalising" a gut feeling that he just found viels unpleasant?

Ok firstly you may like to believe that you are wearing this veil, or "covering" (i call it an eloborate head scarf) out of choice-but you are not. You are being controlled and exploitated of your rights by extremist religious views.
In particular muslim men, who woudl readily agree that women are "second class citizens" and donot have the same rights that men do, how ridiculous. Do you really want believe this, or are you so brainwashed that you would believe nothing less? Its sad that muslim women dont have self worth.
Everything that a woman seems to do as a muslim, is under the control of a man or the very family that are meant to be behind her. The wearing of the head scarfs or veil- is a control in itself- issued by the man-to conceal her identity and to rob that woman of her sexuality.
It is pure selfishness and was only initially issued to muslim women, to stop other men looking at anothers wife. There is no trust or respect in islam and the woman has no rights. And if you are genuine, neither do you.
Secondly, there is the unfortunate of arranged marriages-these are mostly forced marriages. Not only is it sad enough that a woman doesnt have a choice as to who she will marry (or fall in love with) she will be disowned by her parents, her family and in some extreme circumstances murdered of severely harmed- if she is not to "consent" to the arranged marriage.
I would hate to be a muslim and i pity you. If you are so brainwashed to not see the trusth then this is sad in itself.
I would think that judging by your past views and questions that it is already too late for you.
But just remember that only you should have 100% control over your own life (without harming others) and nobody else should.
If you are following any religion which suggests otherwise you shouldnt be following it.
Finally, if britizens citizens (god forbid) were to go to your hom country or country of origin-then we would be FORCED to wear your garments-women in particular- otherwise we would be arrested, tortured, shot or worse.
In the UK you have a choice, but terrorism-from the very same religion that you follow and support-is gradually bringing this choice narrower and narrower for your people, and soon there will ne no choice for you whatso ever.
We need a leader like Jack Straw to take initiative because otherwise noone else will.
Its about time and this is just the beginning...

That's because he is blind and CANNOT see anyone's face. However it doesn't change the fact that this IS the UK, and if Jack Straw requests (please remember he did not insist) that a Muslim lady remove her veil while they are talking then freedom of speech (a right in this country) means he is well within his rights to do so.
I am sorry if it seems offensive to anyone that he asked her to remove her veil, however it is also offensive to use someones disability as an example in this argument.

Because Jack Straw wants to get re elected. He does not care about Muslims because they are the minority in his consistuancy and frightened whites are the majority! By playing to their fears he will be re elected!
What he said is not only rude and stupid but is against human rights! I think this is also the case when the veil was banned in France.
He is a selfish man without justice on his side. I certainly would not vote for him. I do not agree with your faith it scares me too but I belive in your right as a fellow humanbeing and British citizen to wear what you please!

The old saying is 'When in Rome do as the Romans do.' Why should you wear a veil anyway? It looks like you are slaves to us non-muslims. You said yourselve when answer a question that you didn't have a choice in choosing your religion. How do you know that you have the right one? It certainly sounds to me that you are a slave to sin, and not free at all.

Because Jack Straw feels he speaks for teh paranoid country when he says these things, he should be looking to educate people so they don't fear or hate what they don't know.
Instead he's stirring the pot for more hatred and fear.
If only the people that vote him in, in whatever town he comes from (all I know is that it's over 50% muslim), would actually realise what an idiot he is and vote someone else in we'd be much better of.

OK i agree that they shouldn't need to remove the veil in those circumstances
but to travel by air they should to verify their passports or no travel for them
