hey I'm really shy too, I'm in high school, you're not crazy, just shy. I don't exactly feel like everyone's looking at me, but I won't ever talk to anyone new bcuz I'm afraid they'll just ignore me or look down on me. so just try getting a few close friends and hang out w/ them.
I have four close friends and they're the ones I always talk to and hang out w/ at lunch and going to other places. they're also helping me become more confident in myself by getting me to slowly come out of my shell little by little.
I was homeschooled from 1st grade to halfway through 8th grade, so I had little to no interaction w/ others my age and so I think that's why I'm so shy at school now. but if you felt like you fit in in high school, maybe you just need to get a few close friends who you can confide in and they can help you like mine have helped me.
good luck!!! =)

I don't like being in crowds either. Not all people are herd animals. You could have something like agoraphobia where you are severely anxious in public spaces or you might just be shy.
Us humans we all have some kind of mental illness. Yup, all of us. Its all just a matter of degree. If your condidtion prevents you from doing your job or doing something that you really want to do, then seek help, either a friend or a professional.
However its OK to be different and getting someone to change your basic personality has only very limited value and may make things worse. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't try out different experiences, it just means its OK to be you.

It's not crazy, and nothing's wrong with you. You're just shy. It might help you if you told a good friend about your problem and then you could try going to a couple places with her. That way she would be extra attentive to you introducing you and making you feel comfortable.

I had this same problem for years. Shyness to the point it screwed with my whole life. I was miss diagnosed for years.
Then my son was diagnosed with ADHD. He went to visit with my mother for the summer and he didn't take his medicine. My mom said, "You know TJ acts just like you did at that age." A little light went off in my head and I went back to my doctor. He started me on concerta and my life has changed dramatically and for the better.
Maybe you should talk to your doctor. It was a true miracle for me.
Good Luck.

GO AHEAD AND GET OUT. PEOPLE ARE GOING TO LOOK REGARDLESS. IF YOU WERE UGLY PEOPLE WILL STILL STARE. JUST HOLD YOUR HEAD UP AND KEEP ON STEPPING. DON'T PAY ANY ATTENTION TO THEM. YOU CAN NOT DEPRIVE YOURSELF FROM THE THINGS YOU WANT TO DO BECAUSE OF OTHER. THEY ARE GOING TO ENJOY THEMSELVES, SO WHY NOT YOU.
