A doctor will probably call that peripheral edema. Which is just a fancy way of saying that you have swelling in your hands.

The problem is that it might be caused by any number of things, and some of them are very, very bad. Many people with edema have heart difficulties, and some have obstructions in their veins and so on. Or it could be something completely harmless. Only a doctor could tell you which, but if it's something serious, it's probably a really good idea to find out as soon as possible!

On the other hand, that kind of swelling can also be caused by physical obstruction. If you're wearing a tight shirt or a backpack when you take your long walk, they may be the source of the problem as they compress the tissue in your arms and shoulders. If you're just wearing loose clothing, though...

Mine do too! I believe it is because of the swinging motion of your hands/arms when you walk or run. Your heart is working against the force you are putting on the fluid (blood and water) and can't effectively pump it all out. If you have ever been skiing when it is really cold out - you use that to your advantage. It is commonly known that if you spin your arms like a windmill when your hands are cold, you force blood into your hands and they get warmer. So if it happens while you walk, just be sure that with rest or less exertion after, it does go away. If you are pregnant and it doesn't go away, it could be a life threatening condition like hypertension. Other than that it is harmless.
