Personally,I think pretty soon it will be every man for himself in Britain within 3 generations- with no community spirit left to fight crime at all. What do you think?Am I being overly pessimistic?

I totally agree, our towns and cities are being runied by the few. Because of this other peoples attitude change. This change stops people from "getting involved" or "its got nothing to do with me" which leads to these scum getting away with it. When was the last time that you said hello to your neighbour only 5 doors down. Most people in the cities wouldnt even know there next door neighbour. this is not restricted to the cities either, small towns and even villages are plauged by these yobs who make the town centre an no go area for both the elderly and young alike. the police are underpowered and up againt a torrent of PC correctness that stops them from doing their job. the days of a clip around the ear and a visit to the home are gone. The police have no respect, nore do normal, decent hardworking people.Once a visit from the local bobby spelt trouble, but now the local bobby dont exist, and where they do they take abuse from the parents for telling the kids off. i fear for my childrens safety. I remember the days when if you were up to no good then you could bet money that someone knew your mum, and caught you at it. and for information purpose it wernt that long ago. less than 20 years. this leads to a slap. how will the kids know the difference from right and wrong. its ok to steal as all i will get is a caution, do it again and i get the same, do it again and i will get a free holiday for being a bad boy. surely this sends out the wrong message, play up a get things, nice..and this is OK.. i dont think so. the time will come when the everyman for himself senario will be upon us, if not already in inner-cities. there will be readers who totally disagree and thats fine, we are each entiltied to our opinions, but remember when your gran is robbed and raped in her own home for 50p. If the communites were stronger on these poeple, if the community refused to accept the yobs and the police could do their job, then maybe the yobs would think twice. then maybe gran could leave the front door open again.

Yes, you're being overly pessimistic. There has always been crime. There will always be crime. What's changed is that people have spent so much time reading the Daily Mail that they aren't able to see any of the positive things anymore. Are you really saying no town or city in the UK has even one reedeming feature? Crime is one aspect of life. Try to appreciate the other, better ones.

There is high criminal rate in UK compared to other European countries. Personally i don't feel safe. I was living in Nottingham for a year and now i moved to a more peaceful place. I believe we should see what is behind it. It seems that the education system has failed in a way because it all starts from that. Another problem is also the unemployment. The family values seem to be a bit unstable and there is an increase and one of the highest percentage in Europe in domestic violence.
In my opinion the goverment of this country, whoever it will be, should start focusing in these fundamental problems. They should see what is happening to the inside of this country first and then try to solve the outside problems!

Just a tad pessimistic, I personally think this whole country has gone PC mad kids aren't allowed to be kids any more coz people are to busy criticising them accusing them of being "yobs" and "hoodies" but its only a minority that give every other young person be it boy or girl a very bad name and remember you only ever hear bad news on the TV, radio and newspapers. When was the last time you heard a feel good story!

The criminal elements of society reflect the general population, manifest through the government of the day. When society is so focused on political correctness and ignores common decent values, then it gets the underclass it deserves

i do no longer think of it is extremely more suitable in human words to deliver back the death penalty in any respect. Lawlessness in our little ones is a tragic pondered image on the adults in value of bringing those human beings up. quite we could constantly do away with community help officers and replace them with actual police, with powers. no want for such extremes and cost as inner maximum squaddies / secure practices. We basically could have some logical simplistic questioning at Scotland backyard.

I think the country has got worse since they did away with executions for murder and the other penalties they have done away with.
Bring back the stocks and other public humiliation.
