Did the doctor tell you not to drink when taking them?
Did you read the medical info that come with the pills explaining not to take with alcohol?
Is there a little sticker on the side of the bottle telling not to take with alcohol?
If the answer to any of the above is YES then you should obey and not take with alcohol.
If the answer is no then call the doctor and ask him.

You aren't supposed to, that's why they stick a warning on the side of the pill bottle "do not drink alcohol while taking this medication". It could intensify the side effects of the anti-depressants and the alcohol. So you will probably get drunk faster and fall asleep or pass out from the drowsiness that the anti-d's cause. Plus, alcohol is a depressant so you would be negating the desired effect of taking the anti-depressants.

I've been taking 30m for three years now and rightly or wrongly go out few times a month and drink moderately, most of the timei have had no effect, but once or twiceive had a panic attack, think i had drunk too much..so if you feel you want to drink just dont overdue it, its not worth it. If you can go out without taking a drink, do that instead, i try to.

I have been on Citalopram for 5 years, and I do drink with them in moderation. I have never had any problems. I also have regular blood tests for my kidney and liver and they have always been fine. Have spoken to my Doc about it and he says in moderation its OK. Just don't go out and get really p****d, have a few drinks and be sensible.

No it is never safe to drink alcohol with any anti-depressants. I'm very surprised there is not a label on the bottle or card that tells you this.
