Whenever I switch on my laptop, it takes a lot more time than normal to load all the start-up items. The under-process icon (hourglass) remains on the screen for a long time and up till then, whatever programme i try to start, it takes a lot of time to initialize. After some time, a window (device installation wizard) appears on the screen stating that the device has been installed. There is no device mentioned in the wizard. After I click on O K, the PC starts functioning normally. After that it is normal until the next time I start up again. What is this? What is the device that has been installed according to the wizard.

It seems that ur problem is that of adware or the trojan. So
Lets Try to solve that from the start
open up ur computer in the safe mode (Press f5 repetedlyy while it is restarting)
Run an antivirus (updated Norton I suggest)
Run an antispyware (updated Adware I suggest)
Remove all the unnecessary programs by going to COntrol panel
and Add/remove programs,
Install firefox instead of Internet Explorer as it helps in combating bad sites

Before doing all that download all the latest version from thwir sites or u can download them free in a single pack along with other essential programs from this site

and choose the link
Essential software of Google pack.

It will solve ur problem from the root.

Best of Luck!!!

I think you have some kind of an annoying start-up program which might invite trouble. Try starting your sys in "Selective
Start-up" using the below steps:

Click start-run- type "msconfig"
You wil get a dialog box.
Click on startup tab on top and u will find a list of programs that run when your sys starts. Look for the one which you think is causing trouble and uncheck it.
Apply the changes and click Ok.
Restart comp.

Hopefully it should vanish.

Lemme know how it goes.

Good luck!

Sounds like you need to prevent your programs from starting when you log on. The only thing I allow at start up is my Nortons Anti Virus.

Start by checking your right task bar for start up items when you log on.

Try going to .... Run... Msconfig...startup... and uncheck anything you dont need to start when you boot up. Be sure to leave your AntiVirus though.

You will still be able to use any of the programs ...just need to open them manually.
