Why can i not open files in Office 2007?

Change the settings in your anti-virus program so it doesn't scan any Office document and Office Beta will open your files.

Im guessing that your comp indtalled the trial version of office 2007 automatically, just like it was when office 2003 came out.

The file format that office 2007 uses is different from the previous version. So all your office files will now have an "x" appended... example word.docx
