and you can hear something spinning inside but when you insert cd it ejects it and will not play. does anyone have any suggestions?

Does it do it with all CDs or just your favorites? The unit is not reading the CD. It could be one of several problems.

You may just have a dirty CD. Try cleaning it. If that doesn't work, you may have a little dust on your lens. Try getting one of those areosol cans of compressed air (or just squirt it with 20 psi of DRY air if you have a compressor handy).

The most likely cause is the small belt that runs between the motor that spins your CD and the mechanism that holds your CD has broken or worn and come off the pulleys. You could remove the radio and disasseble it and attempt a repair. I probably have a couple radios that would fit right in your space, but I think they both have blue/green displays as opposed to the red one in your Grand Am.

There might be a another CD in it already.
