what are buckeyes? If they are eyes of a deer then they are edible, but I think they have a bit of cartillage at the back of the eye you must spit out, you can split a skinned deer head in half and roast it in red wine and then eat the cheeks the lips the tongue and the eyes, not to mention the brains

TIP: use a spoon in addition to your knife and fork

I think buckeyes are the source for risen like they were sending in the mail to poison folks. I was told when I was very young, that they were poison. Also it was suppose to be good luck to carry one in your pocket.

Now, I am not exactly sure how something could be good luck and poison at the same time. My grandfather carried one for as long as I can remember.

My grandfather also died with Alzheimer's disease. I wonder if anyone has ever explored that connection???

Horsechestnuts and buckeyes (Aesculus species) should not be confused with true chestnuts (Castanea species). The seeds or nuts of the American chestnut (Castanea dentata), Chinese chestnut (Castanea mollissima), and the Allegheny chinkapin (Castanea pumila) are edible. The seeds of horsechestnuts and buckeyes are considered poisonous.
