I'm English. I put petrol in my car and burn gas in my cooker.
Americans put gas in their cars. What do they burn for home cooking/heating?

What do Americans call the gas they might use for cooking, since they call 'gas' what we call 'petrol?

We call that gas too! Gas for the car is short for gasoline, and gas for the home is CNG.

I know it is confusing!

Gas, oil, or heat generated by electricity. In this case, "gas" would mean "natural gas." For our cars, "gas" is short for "gasoline."

Also, we like our beer cold, thankyouverymuch.

Well for cooking I use electric, as my stove/oven is electric. As for heating I have a wood pellet stove...so that would be wood pellets.
