I would get a bottle of Rescue Remedy from a health foods store and treat the kitten with that. You just shake the bottle well and put three to four drops on the kitten's fur between her ears. You can treat her often for the next week, three to four times a day.
The RR has Star of Bethlehem in it which is specific for grief. The essences are for emotional treatment and cannot harm the kitten in any way.
I'm sorry to say that I am appalled that you do not know that NO kitten should be outside where it could be hit by a car. Please keep the remaining kitten inside.

I am so sorry about your loss. I love cats and have had cats all my life.
Yes, your kitten does know what's going on. And like a human she is grieving. She misses her friend. She is very lonely right now. My advice would be to give her lots of love and attention. And maybe in time, get her a new companion if you feel she needs one. Although adult cats aren't always very social, kittens are. They love to play with eachother. I'm sure everything will work out.

I'm sorry for your loss. Your surviving kitten probably does know that something happened to her brother/sister. Just because animals don't behave the same way humans do, they certainly can get depressed when their lives change. I have two cats as well, and one was very sick this summer and spent a couple of night in the hospital. My other cat was very upset during that time and spent a lot of time looking for the other one.

of course she knows her compainion is gone its like if some one told you that a relative of yours died. wouldnt you know? its the same thing. she is going to miss her friend im sure but she will hopefully get over it just spend extra time with her (it comforts) and she should be fine soon. When one of my outside cats escape from their barn (i have three) the other two never stop meowing untill the other comes back. a suggestion would be to find her another compainion. surprisingly a puupy might not be a bad idea if it is calm enough. my dog and cats are great friends. . good luck and im sorry for your loss

Yes, and that's why she's meowing so much. Sometimes they stop eating. When my mom died, our cat would spend hours crying in her room.
Give your kitten tons and tons of attention and DON'T let her outside. The outdoors is dangerous, especially for cats.

cats don't have the same concept of death as we do -- the kitten that you still have probably needs more attention to make up for the loss of the other kitten.
